San Mateo County offers gorgeous country-side as well as all of the entertainment and restaurants you'd expect in any big city. Golden Gate National Recreation Area has spilled into the county protecting thousands of acres for walking, hiking, mountain biking and the simple pleasure of enjoying its beauty. It's common on the coast to watch deer and rabbits ramble about; and an amazing array of ducks, geese and cranes in the waterways of Foster City and Redwood Shores.
Although we have micro-climates that vary significantly from city to city, it's always mild. A light jacket or sweater is typically enough to keep you comfortable, but you should always have it, just in case! Pacifica is often 10 degrees cooler than San Mateo and is just about as close in distance.
I often compare the real estate market to the weather. We have micro-markets in which not only the prices vary significantly but so do the marketing times, styles of the homes, lot sizes, and amenities.
